Brett M. Allen, PE - Principal/Project Manager

Brett Allen is the founding Principal of Contour Engineering LLC, which was formed in 2006. After graduating in 1994, he briefly worked in Alaska in the mining industry before focusing on civil and geotechnical engineering consulting.  He has been working in the Puget Sound regions land development industry since 1998.  As such, Brett has an extensive working knowledge of land planning and civil engineering requirements and practices within the vast majority of jurisdictions within Western Washington.

As a land planner and a civil engineer, Brett has performed countless diverse tasks for hundreds of different projects.  His experience varies from simple private residences and improvements, to moderate public roadway improvement and utilities extension designs, to large private residential and commercial projects with involved all aspects of both land planning and civil engineering.  He has extensive experience as a project lead and has the vast overall knowledge of project development and processes to be successful at any project level.

Professional Experience:

• Responsible for leading a design team of 35 engineers and staff

• Project cost estimating/budgeting/contract preparation

• Land Planning experience including SEPA preparation, JARPA’s, critical areas coordination, right-of-way negotiations, Short and Long Plats, Planned Unit Developments (PUD), variances, deviations, all areas of site planning, code and manual interpretation, etc.

• Extensive engineering experience in grading, stormwater collection and conveyance, stormwater retention and detention systems, fish and non-fish bearing culvert design and analysis, stormwater water quality treatment systems, Low Impact Development (LID) options and implementations, roadway design, sanitary sewer systems design, water systems designs, and erosion control measures and implementation

• Responsible for and successful at obtaining required grading, site development design and utility permits in a cost effective and timely manner that best serve clients objectives

• Project representative to property owners/clients/developers, and point of contact for contractors during construction phase

• Coordination and leadership with other project consultants, sub-consultants, contractor, and sub-contractor as needed to achieve project goals

• Work closely with city, county, state and federal agencies and governments, as well as local utility district officials and representatives, within numerous jurisdictions in the Puget Sound region, to properly and efficiently complete project design and obtain approval of construction documents

• Utilizes hydraulic modelling software required for stormwater facilities such as WWHM3, KCRTS, and Stormshed 3G and is proficient in ACAD Civil 3D esumes for Principals
